PASTORS is a partnership of public and private interests focused on the revitalization, stabilization and diversification of the Charleston’s Renewal Community. The work is accomplished by partnering with existing area non-profits and community organizations in a coordinated effort to address identified community development needs.
Community Development
PASTORS incorporated in 1998, is a non-profit faith based Community Development Corporation representing more than seventy churches and over eight denominations. Its name stands for Pastors Associated Successfully Together to Obey (God) Restore the (community) and Serve (the people). The organization was created to provide a forum for religious institutions to be directly involved in Renewal Community Initiatives.
Housing
PASTORS serves as a Community Housing Development Organization (CHDO) under the U.S.Department of Housing and Urban Development’s HOME Program, in order to qualify for special funding under that program. In support of the Charleston’s Home Ownership Initiative, PASTORS serves as a real estate developer. Specifically, the organization will obtain site control, develop a financial and architectural plan for each property, select a builder, identify and qualify potential home buyers, secure the necessary financing and subsidies, oversee construction and sell the property to the end-buyer.
Church Coordination
Communication and mobilization through monthly correspondence and mail outs to the 70+ churches representing estimated 18,000 parishioners in Charleston’s renewal community.
